MEDIA RELEASE: Michelle Lujan Grisham Wants to Use More Taxpayer Money for Late Term Abortion
Taking the most extreme stance on abortion in the country is not what New Mexicans want
Albuquerque, NM — Today, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced she will commit $10 million from her executive capital allocation funds to establishing a new abortion clinic in Doña Ana County.
“New Mexico was already the abortion capital of the United States, and now taxpayers are having to foot the bill for a clinic which will perform abortions up to the moment of birth for non-residents who come from other states around the country,” said Ronchetti.
“Using taxpayer dollars to enable and fund abortion up until the point of birth is not only out of line with New Mexican values, it is extreme.”
A recent poll conducted by the Albuquerque Journal found that only 35% of voters say abortion should always be legal. Remaining voters (59%) believe there should be at least some limits on abortion. Regardless, Governor Lujan Grisham wants to use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions at any time, not only for in-state residents, but for people traveling from out of state.
Mark Ronchetti has proposed limiting abortion to the first 15 weeks, or in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk which is much more in line with where most New Mexicans are on this issue.
All the while, Governor Lujan Grisham is continuing to drive OBGYNs and other medical doctors out of state with the skyrocketing malpractice insurance premiums caused by her signature of HB75 in the 2021 legislative session. If Governor Grisham was truly concerned for the well-being of New Mexican women and their healthcare, she would never have signed this disastrous bill.
